Maintain the Windrush Compensation Scheme
Last updated 4 years ago
Conservative Party Manifesto 2019, p.21...what happened to the Windrush generation was horrific and we will ensure it never happens again. We are committed to the Windrush compensation scheme.
Our verdict
- This is a pledge of commitment to the Windrush Compensation Scheme, established to compensate those who “suffered loss” in the Windrush scandal resulting from successive UK governments’ “hostile environment” immigration policies.
- On 20 April 2020, the Home Office opened a bid to fund a service that will assist those claiming for compensation in response to the findings of Windrush Lessons Learned Review.
- The compensation scheme has been criticised for making slow progress, but it has been maintained and is scheduled to run until at least April 2023, so this policy is ‘done’.
