Continue to support the First Past the Post system of voting
Last updated 3 years ago
Conservative Party Manifesto 2019, p.48We will continue to support the First Past the Post system of voting, as it allows voters to kick out politicians who don’t deliver, both locally and nationally.
Our verdict
- This is a pledge to continue to support FPTP (the First Past the Post system of voting), which has been used in all constituencies in UK general elections since 1950.
- The government has not changed the voting system, therefore FPTP is still used for general elections, although there are other voting systems used in UK politics at local and regional levels.
- There has been no change in the government’s approach regarding this policy, so we’re marking this promise to “continue to support” FPTP as ‘done’.
