Our verdict
- This a commitment to introduce a new court order extending police powers to stop and search individuals previously convicted of knife crime.
- From 14 September to 8 November 2020, the government held a consultation on the design of Serious Violence Reduction Orders – the subtitle of the consultation document is identical to the wording used in this policy, “A new court order to target known knife carriers”.
- The consultation is a first step towards fulfilment and feedback is currently being analysed, so this policy is ‘in progress’.
