Establish a new £500 million Blue Planet Fund to protect the oceans
Last updated 2 years ago
Conservative Party Manifesto 2019, p.55We will establish a new £500 million Blue Planet Fund to help protect our oceans from plastic pollution, warming sea temperatures and overfishing...
Our verdict
- This policy promises to set up a fund for overseas projects aimed at countering the negative effects of human activity on marine ecosystems.
- The Prime Minister used the G7 summit in Cornwall in June 2021 to announce the establishment of the £500 million Blue Planet Fund to support “developing countries to protect the marine environment and reduce poverty”.
- There is currently little detail on how the fund will operate, but the government has honoured the pledge to establish it, so this policy is ‘done’.
