Legislate to ensure environmental protection

Conservative Party Manifesto 2019, p.5
In parallel, we will legislate to ensure [...] environmental protection...
- This commitment to make new laws on environmental protection is related to Brexit, as areas of UK environmental policy which were decided by the EU before Brexit are now being taken over by the government.
- The government reintroduced the Environment Bill to Parliament in January 2020, which sets out “a new and ambitious domestic framework for environmental governance” for the UK. The bill is currently at the House of Commons Committee stage (where bills are scrutinised in detail by a committee of MPs).
- As the Environment Bill is making its way through Parliament, this policy is ‘in progress’.
