Our verdict
- This is a promise to “encourage” employers to help employees adjust their working patterns according to their needs.
- During the COVID-19 pandemic the government has issued guidelines encouraging employers to help people work from home (a form of flexible working), and has restated an intention to consult on making flexible working the default.
- COVID-19 made flexible working the only safe option for millions of people, and required government to strengthen its support for the practice. As a result, this policy is ‘done’.
