Establish 20 Institutes of Technology
Last updated 4 years ago
Conservative Party Manifesto 2019, p.36And we’ll also have 20 Institutes of Technology, which connect high-quality teaching in science, technology, engineering and maths to business and industry.
Our verdict
- This commitment builds on a broken promise from the previous government to “establish new institutes of technology (IoTs)…in every major city in England”.
- In April 2019, the previous administration selected 12 providers to set up IoTs. Under the current government, the competition for the second wave was announced in February 2020 and the bidding process ran from 16 October to 14 December.
- It looks likely that providers will be selected for new IoTs in 2021, but until at least 20 institutes are fully operational, this policy remains ‘in progress’.
