Our verdict
- This is a promise that UK military veterans will be guaranteed an interview when they apply for a role in the UK public sector (meaning any organisation run by the government).
- The government announced in February 2020 that it would do this for “civil service jobs”, commencing with pilot schemes from spring 2020 in some of its ministries, such as the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defence and Cabinet Office.
- These trials in limited areas of the public sector show that the government has made steps to fulfil this promise, so this is ‘in progress’.
